- Samantha Veloso
- c/o Central Manor Farm
- 1474 Central Manor Lane
- Bedford, VA 24253
Samantha Veloso, 12, began skating at the age of 7. She
is currently
an Intermediate level skater. As a Juvenile, she made it all the
way to The
U.S. Junior Nationals where she placed 8th in the final
group. And, she will be going back to Junior Nationals this year,
due to a Silver Medal winning performance at South Atlantics.
Samantha trains with Serguei Kouznetsov, Elena Novak, and Alexei
Kiliakov. Not surprisingly, Samantha
has
had to be home-schooled by her mother since they live four hours from
her
coach and home ice rink! Weekly, they leave their home, and
Samantha's
dad, to travel the four days of her training schedule and stay with
other
kind skate families to defray the cost of so much travel. Any
help
to support this very motivated young skater would be appreciated!
Thank you for your time and consideration!

Cassandra is a beautiful 8 year old girl who is normal in
every way
except one. Cassandra has Atypical Absence Seizure
(epilepsy).
Some days she has as many as 200 seizures. There are activities
that
she can't do at all, like riding a bike. For some unknown reason
Cassandra can ice skate without being bothered by seizures.
Cassandra began ice skating at age 6. We took her to the USFSA
Learn
to Skate Basic Skills Program at the Detroit Skating Club. She is
currently at the Advanced Beginner Level, working on Freestyle, Moves
and
Dance. Recently, she auditioned for and made the DSC's world
famous
TEAM ELAN Synchronized Skating Preliminary Team. USFSA's SKATING
Magazine is featuring Cassandra in their "Kid Spotlight" section of
their
October issue. Both the US and Canadian Epilepsy Foundations are
featuring Cassandra in their "Heroes" section and as a "Poster Kid" in
mail out to their members. Cassandra's favorite skating moves
include;
the Waltz jump, all spins, Flip, Toe Loop, Spiral and Lunge. She
has medalled in her last three competitions. Steve Hartsell is
her
Coach at DSC and Deryck Szatkowski was her Coach through the Basic
levels.
Cassandra is home schooled and is an excellent student. She works
very hard at everything she does. She has such a "can do"
attitude
about everything. She needs financial assistance due to her
disability
and our family problems. We are so proud of her and we know you
will
be too. Thanks for helping her in any way you are able.
